PhD Funding Opportunities in Polish Studies at the University of Manchester

The School of Arts, Languages and Cultures at the University of Manchester hosts one of the largest and most diverse and dynamic postgraduate communities in the UK, and is committed to financially supporting the best qualified applicants. Each year the School awards over £1,000,000 in studentships and bursaries for postgraduate study. There is a range of awards on offer for both Home/EU and Overseas students at PhD level. The following funding is available to applicants to the PhD programmes in Polish Studies and Russian and East European Studies:

ARTS AND HUMANITIES RESEARCH COUNCIL (AHRC) DOCTORAL RESEARCH STUDENTSHIPS IN RUSSIAN, SLAVONIC AND EAST EUROPEAN STUDIES

The University of Manchester is a member of the AHRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Russian, Slavonic and East European Languages and Cultures (CEELBAS CDT). UK and EU students working on Polish culture, history and society and intending to take a PhD degree in the School may be eligible to apply for support from the CEELBAS CDT. All CEELBAS AHRC Doctoral Studentship applications must be received by the CEELBAS Administrator by 16:00 GMT, Wednesday, 1 March 2017 at the following address: ceelbas@ssees.ucl.ac.uk

Please note that to be eligible to apply for a CEELBAS AHRC Doctoral Studentship you must have applied for a place on the PhD programme in Polish Studies at the University of Manchester. The deadline for the PhD Programme applications is Friday, 27 January 2017. This will ensure that you are in receipt of an offer of a place on your chosen PhD programme in advance of the CEELBAS AHRC deadline of 1 March 2017. ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL RESEARCH COUNCIL (ESRC) STUDENTSHIPS

The University of Manchester is a member of the ESRC's North West Social Science Doctoral Training Partnership (NWSSDTP). UK and EU students working on Polish culture, history and society and intending to take a PhD degree (+3) or an MA followed by a PhD (1+3) in the School may be eligible to apply for support from the ESRC. Studentships for projects in Polish Studies are offered under the NWSSDTP’s Language Based Area Studies pathway.

Subject to satisfactory progress, these awards will provide:

 

  • Tuition fees at the Home/EU rate
  • An annual maintenance stipend of £14,296 (2016/17 rate) (not all EU applicants are eligible for the funding of maintenance)

PRESIDENTIAL DOCTORAL SCHOLAR AWARDS

All candidates, including those from overseas, are eligible to apply for the President's Doctoral Scholar (PDS) Competition. PDS studentships cover tuition fees (Home/EU and Overseas), as well as the maintenance grant of £14,296 (2016/17 rate).

All PDS applications must be received by the School by 17:00 GMT, Friday, 10 February 2017. Please note that you must submit your online application for a place on your chosen PhD programme by Friday 20 January 2017.

FURTHER AWARDS

In addition to Research Council funding and the PDS awards, the School of Arts, Languages and Cultures offers a number of PhD Studentships and fee bursaries.
